Terrorism

Terrorism is a huge issue all across the world. In order to completely understand the global issue surrounding terrorism, you need to get a good idea of how it has become such a global issue. I will talk about when the issue started and how it became a global issue, who has been impacted and what the impact is, and finally, how the issue is global in nature and why we should care.
To start off, this particular issue has been around for quite some time but it really started to have a major effect when 9/11 happened. Back on September 1st 2001, nineteen hijackers staged a terrorist attack so devastating that it fundamentally altered American society. The terrorists seized control of four commercial airplanes. Two were crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. One was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth airplane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after the passengers struggled to wrest control of the aircraft from the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. That is also how it became a global issue, that incident changed the world. Some say for the better, others say for the worse. My personal opinion is that the world has been changed positively for everyone all over the world, and especially in North America. There is security everywhere now, and they’ve taken it to a new extreme in airports. You are supposed to get there an hour early to catch your flight, and you wait in a huge lineup just to pass through security which they do multiple scans to see what you’re bringing on the airplane. Now, I’m not saying this is a bad thing but before 9/11 happened people could just check their bags and carry on to their flight. Ever since then, there have been so many precautions put in place and that is how it became a global issue.

Secondly, I’d like to touch on who is impacted and what that impact is. Certainly, I could just say that everyone is affected, without giving any more detail, but there’s not a lot more to give. Sure enough, there are wide varieties of people that have been affected. People all across the world in every country have had their lives changed in some way because of this. All the airports have high-tech security, and there are still terrorists out there. There are many ways to calculate the impact that this has on people. There are direct and indirect costs of terrorism; the impact on society has been drastic. There are people who could care less, and then there are people who are deathly afraid of just walking outside, let alone riding on an airplane. There are people who live in fear of being attacked and these people can’t have a normal life.

Finally, I’d like to speak about how this issue is global in nature, and why we should care overall. Terrorism has escalated to a global issue in nature because the terrorist organizations are not just targeting one nation; they are targeting every nation who doesn’t believe the way they do. Terrorism has become a top issue because of the threats and the danger they pose to the citizens and everything else in the world. They do not care about what is in their way. They would destroy everything if they had to. That includes some of the worlds greatest resources that we need to survive. Of course, we have to care because there is so many people affected by this, that we can’t just stand back and watch. We should be standing up, and fighting back. Not necessarily with weapons but we should be thankful when taking the extra time at the airport, and realize that it’s protecting us so nothing like 9/11 ever happens again.
In conclusion, you can probably see that Terrorism is a global issue, and it affects many people in the world. It has a large impact on just about everyone, and you now know how it started and how it became a problem. Also, people should start caring about this kind of stuff. All things considered, I hope you can take away a good perception of what terrorism has done to become a global issue and how important it is.
